John MacLeod
Board Member
John MacLeod is an inspirational leader in media education with over 30 years of experience making technology accessible to all. John founded New Media Learning to ensure that digital tools promote diversity and equity rather than creating barriers. He currently serves as the primary liaison for the Marin County Library Foundation, leading efforts to secure community-driven funding for innovative literacy programs. As the Executive Director of XRlibraries, he is passionate about transforming libraries into hubs for immersive learning. He believes that through equipping youth with innovative technology, we provide them with the ultimate tools to support creative expression and future success.

Dr. Ulia Gosart
Board Member
Dr. Ulia Gosart is an Associate Professor at SJSU and a leading voice in international librarianship and human rights. Her career is defined by her dedication to protecting Indigenous rights and supporting global literacy, most notably through her leadership of the Ukrainian book drive. She believes that libraries are essential for social justice and community resilience. Dr. Gosart brings a global perspective to the board, ensuring that New Media Learning’s programs empower youth to become informed, compassionate global citizens who value cultural preservation.

Jackie Leonard
Board Member
Jackie Leonard is a Project Manager for iSchool Book Ecosystems, where she specializes in creating sustainable networks for literacy. With a background in international fundraising, Jackie is passionate about connecting global resources to local needs to expand educational access. She serves on the board to help scale New Media Learning’s initiatives, ensuring that students in underserved regions have the books and technology they need to thrive. Her goal is to build a world where geography never limits a child’s opportunity to learn and grow.

Dr. Anthony Chow

Dr. Anthony Chow is a national advocate for digital equity and the Director of the San José State University School of Information. As the 2025-2026 President of the California Library Association (CLA) and Vice-Chair of the Board for Little Free Library, he brings deep expertise in how community resources can bridge the literacy gap. Dr. Chow is driven by a passion for the "Reading Nation Waterfall" initiative, which focuses on ensuring that all community members, particularly those in underserved populations, have equal access to information and reading materials. He serves on the board of New Media Learning to provide the strategic vision necessary to integrate emerging technologies into public service, fostering a more equitable and innovative digital future for all learners.

Sara Russell
Board Member
Sara Russell is a project manager, literacy advocate, and community engagement professional focused on building sustainable global book ecosystems and expanding equitable access to literacy resources. Through her work with the Book Ecosystem Initiative at San José State University, she coordinates international book shipments, strategic community partnerships, and cross-sector collaborations that support underserved communities. Sara has helped lead the Soma Safari initiative, advancing literacy efforts in Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, and Tribal communities across the United States. A former Peace Corps volunteer in South Africa and current Literacy Coordinator with the San Diego Public Library, she brings experience in youth literacy, educational programming, and community-centered outreach. Her work is grounded in creating culturally responsive partnerships that strengthen access to books, learning, and opportunity.
